Ambode names ex Punch Editor, Steve Ayorinde and 35 others in cabinet list

A former Managing Director, National Mirror, Steve Ayorinde and a former Chairman of the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Kehinde Bamigbetan, were among the 37 names submitted by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday to the state House of Assembly for screening.


The governor requested the Assembly to screen and approve the 36 persons to work with him as commissioners and special advisers.
The Clerk of the House, Mr. Ganiyu Abiru, who read the names on the floor of the Assembly, added that 23 persons would serve as commissioners, while 14 would serve as special advisers.
The names sent by the governor are six former cabinet members from the former administration consisting a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Gbolahan Lawal; a former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris; a former Special Adviser, Central Business District, Folarin Coker; a former Special Adviser, Commerce and Industry, Seye Oladejo; a former Special Adviser, Works and Infrastructure, Ganiyu Johnson, and a former Special Adviser, Rural Development, Babatunde Hunpe.
Ambode also told the lawmakers that he wanted to inject new blood on merit and professionalism.
He, therefore, named what he termed, a relatively young cabinet, with the likes of Ayorinde, also a former editor of The PUNCH.
The governor also named Mrs. Yetunde Onabolu, Fela Bank-Olemoh; a former partner in KPMG, Akinyemi Ashade; a pharmacist, Alhaja Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Kehinde Joseph; and a professor of Law, Ademola Abass. The governor explained that their ages ranged between 39 and 47 years.
Other names submitted by the governor include Dr. Akintola Benson; a former Special Adviser, Political and Legislative Powers Bureau, Dr. Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, Dr. Mohammed Akinkunmi; a former member, House of Representatives, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, Dr. Femi Onanuga; the CEO of LAMATA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Ade Akinsanya and Wasiu Anifowoshe.
The rest are a former member, House of Assembly, Mrs. Lola Akande, Agboola Dabiri, Ganiu Sanni, Anofi Elegushi, Rotimi Ogunleye, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola, Femi Odubiyi, Alhaji Musiliu Folami, Adeniji Kazeem, Adeyemi Labinjo, Toyin Suara, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, Deji Tinubu, Mrs. Mudirat Giwanson and Wale Oluwo.
